Cantor Molly May is excited to serve Congregation Beth Ohr for the High Holidays 5786 in her first position as an ordained cantor. Cantor Molly has a range of experiences on the bima and looks forward to leading a service rooted in traditional nusach and enthusiastic congregational singing. She guarantees to be able to end the N’ilah service exactly right!
Cantor Molly is a musician and educator. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Michigan and a Masters Degree in Music Education from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. Molly has completed her cantorial studies through the Academy for Jewish Religion. Prior to entering the Jewish professional world, she taught orchestra and band (occasionally participating in barbershop quartets and choruses as well as symphony orchestras).
Cantor Molly is completing a residency in Clinical Pastoral Education at Duke Regional Hospital, after which she will apply to become a board-certified chaplain.
Cantor Molly has lived in Durham, NC with her family for the past three years. She is a freelance cantor, teacher/tutor, music transcriber, and the operations director of the May household which includes her husband Chuck and her three sons, aged 18, 16, and 14.
