Welcome to Congregation Beth Ohr

We are a friendly and inviting egalitarian synagogue

Welcome to Congregation Beth Ohr, a vibrant home for a progressive form of Conservative Judaism in New Jersey for Old Bridge and surrounding communities. My name is Joel Mishkin and I have been rabbi here at Beth Ohr since July 2014. Our synagogue features many services and activities. However the most important thing that you can know about our congregation and its rabbi is that we are committed to providing an atmosphere of spirituality, genuine friendship and warmth. Beth Ohr is a congregation that cares about its membership and welcomes any and all who wish to experience the warmth of a friendly and supportive community. With Tefilah (prayer), Torah (study) and Chesed (kindness) as the three pillars of our synagogue we invite you to give us a try.

Congregation Beth Ohr formed a Long Range Planning Committee to ensure the continued success of the Synagogue.  The Committee identified some possible ideas to (1) eliminate any deficit, (2) upgrade the facility, (3) address maintenance of our facility an (4) put us in sound financial footing.

Knowing this and in order to address our financial future we initiated what we now commonly refer to as “Securing our Future” in July of 2017.  This involved 3 phases.  Phase 1 was to present it to the Board and get their endorsement.  I am happy to report that the Board of Directors, in addition to our Rabbi, have 100% endorsed this initiative not only in name but with contributions.  Phase 2 which was rolled out in August of 2017 involved presenting this to our major donors.  Phase 3 will be reaching out to the rest of the congregation.  We have had a tremendous commitment as we have surpassed 70% of our $400,000 goal.  It is in large due to some very significant commitments.  For those who wish to contribute at designated giving guidelines there are opportunities for naming specific items within the Synagogue such as the  Social Hall, Classrooms and Bema chairs just to name a few.
